Project Engineer (Construction – Roads & Infrastructure)
An established Michigan-based road and infrastructure contractor is hiring a Project Engineer due to sustained growth and backlog expansion.
This is a field-driven opportunity supporting local municipal road and infrastructure projects. You will work in a self-perform environment across concrete, asphalt paving (HMA), and underground utilities within union settings. If you are early in your construction career and want exposure to complex municipal work with long-term stability, this role offers both hands-on learning and upward mobility.
What You’ll Do
As a Project Engineer (Construction) supporting road and infrastructure projects, you will:
- Assist the Project Manager and field leadership with daily project coordination
- Support municipal road construction projects including paving, concrete, and underground utilities
- Manage submittals, RFIs, change documentation, and project tracking
- Coordinate with field crews in self-perform environments (concrete, asphalt/HMA, utilities)
- Maintain compliance with municipal specifications and union requirements
- Support cost control, schedule tracking, and progress reporting
- Interface with inspectors, engineers, and municipal representatives
This Project Engineer role provides direct exposure to field operations, giving you the foundation to advance into Project Management or Operations leadership.
Must-Haves
- 1–4 years of relevant construction experience
- Experience in municipal road construction
- Background in self-perform concrete (roads, bridges, flatwork)
- Underground utilities experience
- Ability to operate within Michigan municipal construction markets
