Chief Estimator – Electrical Construction | Maui, Hawaii
Lead the front end of the dominant electrical contractor on Maui.
Our client is the clear market leader in Maui’s commercial and industrial electrical construction market, with by far the largest market share on the island. The company is founder-led, still growing, and recognized as one of Hawaii’s Best Places to Work.
For the right electrical estimating leader, this is the rare move: lead estimating and preconstruction for the contractor that defines the market, work close to ownership, influence how the company grows, help develop the next layer of leadership, and build a serious construction career with real quality of life.
Why This Role Is Different
Most estimating roles are measured by bid volume. This one is measured by judgment, influence, and business impact.
The Chief Estimator will help decide which work is worth pursuing, how early risk should be priced, how design gaps should be handled, and how preconstruction decisions should protect the field before the project starts.
This is not a volume-bid seat. It is a real seat at the table.
The right person will influence pursuit strategy, design-build and design-assist decisions, value engineering, conceptual budgets, GC estimator confidence, facility-client planning, estimating standards, cost history, and the connection between preconstruction and operations.
A strong estimate is not just a number. It is a business decision.
What You Will Lead
You will lead estimating and preconstruction for commercial and industrial electrical work across Maui and the broader Hawaii market.
You will own and influence:
- Electrical estimating and preconstruction strategy
- Design-build, design-assist, value engineering, and conceptual estimating
- Early design-gap review, scope clarity, pricing discipline, and margin protection
- GC estimator relationships and facility-client budgeting confidence
- AccuBid history, cost databases, estimating standards, templates, reporting, and written processes
- Preconstruction-to-operations handoff
- Development of people, professional staff, and future leaders
- Collaboration with operations, project managers, business development, design teams, and field leaders
What Our Client Is Looking For
The best fit is not a hard-bid estimator who wants to stay behind a screen.
Our client needs an electrical preconstruction leader who is credible with the field, steady with clients, strong with numbers, practical with risk, and able to raise the capability of the people around them without turning the company into a corporate machine.
Ideal experience includes:
- Strong electrical estimating and preconstruction experience
- Commercial or industrial electrical construction background
- Design-build or design-assist experience
- Conceptual estimating and value engineering ability
- Credibility with GC estimators, facility clients, design teams, project managers, and field leaders
- Experience improving estimating systems, cost history, standards, or written processes
- Practical judgment around scope, risk, margin, backlog quality, and client fit
Why This Move Is Worth a Conversation
Maui is a beautiful place to live, but it is not a simple place to build. Labor, logistics, procurement timing, aging facilities, resort and condo work, renewable energy needs, schedule pressure, and long-standing relationships all affect true project risk.
That is what makes this role bigger than estimating. The right Chief Estimator will help the company pursue better work, price risk with confidence, build professional talent, connect preconstruction to operations, and strengthen the next stage of the business.
At a large mainland contractor, you may be one strong estimator inside a machine that already exists.
Here, you can help shape the machine.
This is the kind of career-and-life move most electrical estimating leaders never get to consider: real influence, serious construction work, founder access, market leadership, and a place worth building a life around.
