A construction project manager resume gets read for one thing first: proof that you protected an owner’s budget and schedule on work the size of the job you want. In TBG’s 17 open project management searches, 12 job descriptions ask for owner or client management, 11 ask for schedule control, and 10 ask for budget control.
Project managers in the TBG 2026 Construction Salary Survey earn $107,860 to $183,040 in base pay, and project executives reach $273,670. Your resume decides which tier you get priced at.

The owner relationship tops the list. Contractors want a PM who keeps the client and gets the next job.
A degree came up in only 4 of 17. The BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook lists a bachelor’s degree as typical for construction managers, but 13 of our 17 project management postings do not ask for one.
Match Your PM Resume to Project Size and Pay
Nearly half of the open postings put a dollar figure on the work. Your resume should answer that number before the hiring manager asks.
| Level | Typical Project Size | Base Pay Range |
|---|---|---|
| Project Engineer / APM | Supports the PM | $86,090 to $147,610 |
| Project Manager | $10M to $49M | $107,860 to $183,040 |
| Senior Project Manager | $20M to $100M | $126,600 to $219,450 |
| Project Executive / Director I | $100M to $250M | $150,700 to $273,670 |
| Project Director / Executive II | $250M+ | $186,560 to $325,000 |

A PM who has run $45M jobs and applies for a $150M senior role needs a resume that shows growth: a larger phase, a program of jobs, or an owner who came back three times. Compare your experience against current construction project manager salary ranges before you name a number.
Project Manager Resume Bullet Examples
Google’s recruiters teach a formula that fits project management well: “Accomplished X, as measured by Y, by doing Z,” as CNBC reported. PMs already track the numbers. Put them on the page.
The numbers below show the format only. Use your own.
- Weak: Managed project budget.
Strong: Delivered a $27M ambulatory surgery center 2.1% under the GMP by buying out 31 trade packages within six weeks of NTP. - Weak: Handled change orders.
Strong: Recovered $1.4M in owner-directed changes on a $60M distribution center by logging every field directive in Procore within 24 hours. - Weak: Maintained client relationships.
Strong: Won three negotiated follow-on projects worth $48M from one health system owner after closing out the first job with zero open punch items at 30 days.
A hiring manager should be able to read one bullet and know the job size, the owner type, and what you saved or won.
Project Manager Resume Skills and Keywords
The federal job profile for construction managers on O*NET lists the core work: planning and scheduling, preparing budgets and cost estimates, and coordinating with owners, architects, and subcontractors. It names Procore and Microsoft Excel among the software construction managers use.
Build your keyword list from the postings, not a generic list:
- Owner side: owner meetings, OAC meetings, monthly reports, pay applications, GMP, negotiated work, design-build, CM at risk.
- Cost and schedule: buyout, cost-to-complete, forecasting, change order management, CPM schedule, three-week look-ahead.
- Delivery: RFIs, submittals, subcontractor management, closeout, warranty, commissioning.
- Software: Procore, Microsoft Project or Primavera P6, Bluebeam, Excel.
Use the posting’s exact phrase when it is true for you. If the job says “CM at risk,” write “CM at risk,” not “construction management.” The full construction resume guide covers format and ATS rules for every role.
Certifications on a PM Resume
The BLS says certification is not required for construction managers. PMP is rare in our postings too. It appeared in only 2 of TBG’s 39 open construction postings, once as a listed qualification for a project engineer and once as a plus for a structural steel estimator.
List PMP, CCM, LEED AP, or OSHA 30 if you hold them. Do not lead with them. Project size and owner results get the interview.

Mistakes That Cost Project Managers Interviews
No dollar values. 8 of 17 open postings state a project size. If your resume does not, you get screened against a guess.
No owner type. Healthcare came up in 6 of 17 postings. Say whether you worked for a hospital system, a developer, a school district, or a federal agency.
Duties copied from your job description. Every PM “managed budgets.” Show the number you hit.
One title, ten years, no growth. If your title never changed, show growth through project size and responsibility.
