SnackCraft LLC, a gluten-free and allergen-controlled contract manufacturer of baked and salty snacks, is set to create 37 new jobs and invest $29.9 million in its Kentwood (Grand Rapids) facility. As a subsidiary of Greece-based Unismack S.A., SnackCraft was established in Kentwood in 2022, marking Unismack’s first North American manufacturing operation and U.S. headquarters. Due to a surge in demand for its products, the company plans to expand its current site.
Founded in Greece in 2008, Unismack specializes in research and development as well as the production of high-quality, natural baked snacks that are free from allergens and artificial ingredients. SnackCraft’s product lineup includes baked crackers, tortilla chips, pellet snacks, and baked extruded snacks made from unique ingredients like lentil and chickpea flour, vegetable flours, wholegrain corn, and various seeds.
To support its growth strategy, SnackCraft is planning a 186,000-square-foot expansion, increasing its total manufacturing, warehousing, and distribution space to 311,000 square feet. This project will involve a capital investment of $29.9 million, backed by a $400,000 performance-based grant from the Michigan Business Development Program. Michigan was selected over another state due to its strong customer base and access to a skilled labor pool.
“The expansion underscores our commitment to the region and enhances our ability to serve both existing and new customers while solidifying SnackCraft’s long-term manufacturing presence,” said SnackCraft CEO Joseph F. Riley.
“I connected with SnackCraft in early 2022 when they were establishing their North American operations in Kentwood,” said Brent Case, VP of Business Attraction at The Right Place. “Witnessing their remarkable growth and now aiding in their expansion just over a year later has been an incredible opportunity. I look forward to their future developments.”
“Today’s announcement illustrates why Michigan is a prime destination for food and agriculture opportunities,” said Tim Boring, director of the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. “This expansion will add manufacturing, warehousing, and distribution space, support 11 new full-time production lines, and create 37 jobs. Governor Whitmer’s leadership continues to foster new opportunities for food and agriculture producers in Michigan.”
The city of Kentwood is supporting the project with a 50-percent property tax abatement.
“The city of Kentwood is committed to fostering an open-for-business culture and collaborating with local, national, and international companies to generate jobs and economic growth,” said Kentwood Mayor Stephen Kepley. “SnackCraft has been a fantastic community partner, and we’re thrilled to see them expand their operations and workforce in Kentwood.”
