The Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) has unveiled plans for a major land development project that is expected to cost a minimum of $300 million. Several leading companies are eager to be part of the expansion, with three offers already approved.
Located in Sanford, Florida, the airport spans approximately 800 acres, with 450 acres currently available for development. Over 150 acres have already been claimed by businesses.
A Positive Move for the Region
“This airport is a remarkable asset with untapped potential,” said Seminole County Commissioner Lee Constantine. “It serves as a dynamic economic driver for the county.”
Commissioner Jay Zembower added, “We’re looking at a development valued between $300 million and $400 million, which will enhance the existing infrastructure.”
The airport authority has received nearly 20 proposals and six formal letters of intent. Three of these have been greenlit, with land parcels ranging from 10 to 50 acres.
A range of companies have expressed interest in the project.
At least one of the approved projects is expected to break ground by the end of 2025, with the developments expected to create nearly 1,000 jobs. These new ventures will join the airport’s existing mix of high-tech, industrial, and flight training operations.
A Business Plan is Included
The $300 million project is part of a broader regional development initiative. Seminole County is also working on a $61 million indoor recreation and festival center to complement the airport’s expansion.
“Combined, these efforts will lead to substantial growth, creating new opportunities for development, employment, recreation, and tourism,” Commissioner Constantine concluded.
A Viable Economic Opportunity
The project has already garnered significant interest from leading companies, with three proposals approved and others under review. Expected to create over 1,000 jobs and attract diverse industries, this development will enhance the airport’s infrastructure while solidifying its role as a dynamic economic driver for the region. Key economic points include:
- Local Growth: The project is part of a broader regional initiative, including a complementary $61 million indoor sports and festival complex in Seminole County, aimed at boosting recreation, tourism, and economic growth
- Better Infrastructure: Development will enhance existing roads, attracting industrial, and commercial businesses to the region.
- Land Development: The airport is a major economic driver for Seminole County, with its influence expected to grow due to this expansion. Thousands of acres along East Lake Mary Boulevard are also available for future development opportunities
Final Thoughts
The planned land development at Orlando Sanford International Airport represents a significant opportunity for both economic growth and job creation in the region. With major businesses already committing to the project, and a robust mix of aviation and industrial ventures set to take root, the expansion will not only enhance the airport’s role as a key economic hub but also provide new opportunities for the community. Paired with Seminole County’s additional investments in recreation and tourism, this development is poised to drive long-term prosperity for the area.
